Speakers Announced - Tickets Now On Sale
The line up of speakers for the 2014 TEDxFortMcMurray event set for February 21, 2015 includes some familiar faces, but some new kids on the block as well. Following the request for applications and a tough audition phase in which applicants did a dry run of their TEDx talk, the TEDxFortMcMurray selection committee has narrowed it down to 13.
“It was tough,” said Renee Summers, a member of the committee tasked with this year’s selection. “We
really had a hard time trying to determine the best speakers. Everyone was so passionate and each
person bringing their own perspectives on ‘Pioneering’, it was hard to choose in the end.”
The list of presenters for this year’s event is headlined by Dr. Teodor Grantcharov from Toronto, Ontario. Also presenting from outside of the Wood Buffalo region will be rapper Abdominal (aka Andy Bernstein, Toronto), technologist Karl Swannie (Victoria), educator Rahim Sajan (Calgary), serial entrepreneur Joey Hundart (Edmonton) and business professional Sarah Rawlins (Edmonton). Local presenters include Executive Chef Jay Barnard, yoga and wellness instructor Kaitlin Armstrong, marketer Mardi Getty, communications professional Kiran Malik-Khan, firefighter Captain Tim Moen, and nurse and breastfeeding educator Vilia Tosio. This year’s event will also feature former long-time resident and D Day soldier Tom Morimoto, who in his 96th year now resides in British Columbia.
The announcement of the presenters will officially launch the sale of tickets to the event. Due to
increasing interest in the local TEDx series, the previous process of applying for tickets has been waived
for 2015. Tickets, which will be $75, and can be purchased here.
